About Camp Tidnish

As the only fully accessible camp in the province, we provide children, youth, and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities the chance to experience the joy of summer camp without limits. Nestled in the heart of nature, Camp Tidnish is more than a destination — it’s a community where friendships are forged, independence is celebrated, and every camper is empowered to shine.

In proud partnership with the Rotary Club of Amherst, Easter Seals Nova Scotia operates Camp Tidnish, a haven of inclusivity located near Amherst, Nova Scotia. As the province’s only barrier-free and fully accessible summer camp, we welcome children, youth, and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities to experience the joy of camp in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment.

For over 85 years, Camp Tidnish has been a cornerstone of summer fun, offering top-quality programs that prioritize inclusion, independence, and personal growth. Each year, hundreds of campers from across Nova Scotia join us to connect with nature, build friendships, and create memories that last a lifetime.

At the heart of Camp Tidnish is our dedicated and professional team, trained to meet the diverse needs of our campers — from medical and mobility support to personal care and nutrition. With a small counsellor-to-camper ratio, we ensure every camper receives exceptional care and individual attention.

Our engaging overnight camp experiences include boat tours on the Tidnish River, hayrides, fishing, creative arts, and swimming in our heated indoor pool. Camp Tidnish is more than just a camp — it’s a place where friendships flourish, independence is celebrated, and campers discover their full potential in a community that embraces everyone.

CAMP VOLUNTEERS ARE AMAZING!

Our volunteers help in many ways – they help organize and deliver fun camp games & activities and spend time engaging our campers by making friends, singing songs, playing games or hanging out.

Volunteers help balance the camp day by supporting our counsellors, kitchen and maintenance crew and help with other tasks that make the camp day run smoothly for everyone. Some volunteers give an hour or two and others longer. Some come for an afternoon, some the whole day and others stay for a week or longer.

We love and appreciate whatever time our volunteers can give, you can decide the amount of time you want to volunteer.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 15 years of age before camp begins (June).
• A vulnerable records check from your local police station if over 18 years of age. (Normally free for volunteers) and a letter from the NS Child Abuse Registry if over 18 years of age and from NS.
• Volunteers must be able to conduct their daily care (medication, bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) as we are not able to dedicate camp staff to support this. Volunteers who might need this support will be required to bring a support person (care worker/family member) with them to camp.
