Easter Seals Nova Scotia is excited to partner with Banook Canoe Club to offer a wonderful new dragon boat experience for children and youth with disabilities.
This program is all about fun, inclusion, friendship, and building confidence in a welcoming, non-competitive environment. Participants will enjoy a dragon boat outing on the beautiful waters of Lake Banook, followed by accessible beach activities where everyone can continue to connect and have fun together.
The program will run rain or shine. If weather conditions prevent beach activities, we have indoor space reserved so the fun can continue.
To help make the program as accessible as possible, Banook Canoe Club has recently installed a new boat lift to assist participants getting safely in and out of the dragon boat. This lift was made possible through a generous grant from Sport Nova Scotia to the Lake Banook Canoe Club. We are grateful for their support in helping create inclusive paddling opportunities.
No previous paddling experience is required. Participants do not need to know how to paddle or be physically able to paddle to enjoy this experience.
Seven experienced and qualified paddlers will be in the boat to ensure a safe, enjoyable outing for everyone.
If a participant requires one-to-one support, a parent or caregiver is asked to accompany them in the boat.
The dragon boat has a maximum capacity of 20 people. If demand exceeds the available spaces, Banook Canoe Club hopes to offer a second session so more families can participate.
Siblings are welcome to join, provided they are registered in advance, so we have all the necessary participant information.
For everyone’s safety, a certified dragon boat instructor and a lifeguard will be present throughout the program. Personal flotation devices (life jackets) will be provided for all participants.

We look forward to welcoming your family to the lake for an enjoyable and memorable day on the water!
