Haley Westhaver at NSLC

Meet Haley Westhaver who has been involved with our Supported Employment program since October 2019 and joined The Next Step Program when it began in September 2020. Haley had employment experience before participating in The Next Step, which helped strengthen her employability skills. Haley benefitted from our employment workshops and on-site job coaching to ensure success.

Haley began working at one of our skills training locations called New Leaf Café at the NS Rehabilitation Centre where she strengthened her skills in the food industry. She strengthened her customer service and cash skills, which opened other opportunities. Haley’s next adventure brought her to Sobeys on Tacoma Drive and then to Sackville. At both locations, she was responsible for assisting customers at the self-checkout kiosks, cashier duties and other customer service roles. Haley was then fortunate enough to land a position at NSLC in Sackville.

Haley has made great strides with her employment opportunities. She is positive, upbeat, and always willing to help.

Jennifer Hatcher at Chicken Little Cafe

Meet Jennifer Hatcher who joined The Next Step Supported Employment Program in September 2021 and benefited from pre-employment workshops and skill building. By August 2022, she began to work at one of our skills training sites, New Leaf Café at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre.

At New Leaf Café she embraced the hands-on learning opportunities for customer service, food preparation and money-handling skills. Jennifer’s growth throughout our program has been phenomenal; she is very positive, possesses a strong work ethic, and offers support and leadership amongst her peers.

Her talent and drive have led her to successfully obtain employment at Chicken Little Café in West Bedford (off Larry Uteck).

Patrick Flewelling at DCS

Meet Patrick Flewelling who joined The Next Step Employment Program in November 2021. Patrick benefitted from our pre-employment workshops and was eager to showcase his skills in the workforce. He has an incredible attitude and work ethic. Patrick has been employed as a mail clerk at the Department of Community Services since February 2, 2022!

Patrick has been a great addition to the Department of Community Services mail room. He is reliable, punctual and always willing to help out.

Henry Evans at Steele Wheels Motor Museum

Meet Henry Evans who joined The Next Step Employment Program in January 2024. Henry was very determined to strengthen his employability skills to help land his dream job. He was active in our pre-employment workshops, participated in our Reverse Job Fair and showed great enthusiasm.

Henry is a very positive young man who has a wealth of knowledge of the automotive industry. His love of photography and cars allowed him to explore a great employment opportunity. Henry began his employment journey at Steele Wheels Motor Museum on May 24th and absolutely loves it. Bryce and Kaitlynn at the North End Baking Co.

Meet Bryce and Kaitlynn, clients of The Next Step Supported Employment Program!

Bryce Carroll joined the employment program from Churchill Academy. He worked hard to gain confidence through our pre-employment workshops and participated in our Reverse Job Fair. Bryce is a very positive young man with a great work ethic. Through his hard work and determination, Bryce was hired at The North End Baking Co. and Café, which is a part of Prescott Group and began his employment journey with them on June 27, 2024.

Kaitlynn was introduced to our employment program through Club Inclusion and the Prescott Group. She also benefitted from our pre-employment workshops, which helped strengthen her employability skills, and participated in the Reverse Job Fair. Kaitlynn is a great team player and is always willing to help others. Kaitlynn started working at the North End Baking Co. on July 3, 2024.
